FAQ.- What is country benchmarking?

The Commission’s benchmarking system categorizes countries or regions based on the risk level of producing non-deforestation-free commodities. It classifies them into three categories: high, standard, and low risk. The criteria for this classification are outlined in Article 29 of the Regulation. The Commission is tasked with developing and publishing this system within 18 months of the Regulation’s enforcement, considering both quantitative and qualitative factors, scientific evidence, internationally recognized sources, and verified on-site information.
