EUDR for Cattle

At a landscape level, beef production is the main driver of deforestation of tropical forests worldwide, with soy coming in second. Not only are both commodities listed as top deforestation drivers under the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR), but soybeans are a key component of animal feed, as 75% of the world’s soy production is used for this purpose.

This is where the EUDR becomes crucial for the Cattle market in ensuring the sustainable production of cattle products, not only beef, but derivates like leather products, while meeting the demands of an expanding population.

• EUDR requires companies sourcing beef/leather to prove that their supply chains do not contribute to forest degradation.
• Companies and suppliers will have to trace their beef and related products down to the source to prove compliance in the cattle market.
