DPP legislation and framework
The Ecodesign directive is part of the big idea: European Green Deal.
The EU Green Deal is a policy package to make the EU carbon neutral by 2050.
One of those policies in the EU Green Deal is the Circular Economy Action Plan, empowering consumers in sustainable choices, like reducing waste, and setting goals like the “sustainable products initiative”
The Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR) is the main policy instrument here and aims to make sustainable products the norm by creating access to sustainability information along the supply chain.
A key pillar is the Digital Product Passport, as a solution to mobilize the potential of product information digitalization as part of a sustainable product policy.
The objective of the DPP is to simplify digital access to relevant product-specific information around sustainability, circularity, and legal compliance. It is not a track & tracing tool, but it will allow to also include traceability information when appropriate.
