For bulk commodities, including soybeans and palm oil, the responsibility lies with the operator (or traders not classified as SMEs) to verify and document the origin of all land parcels contributing to a consignment, ensuring that at no point in the supply chain are the goods blended with items of uncertain provenance or sourced from lands cleared or harmed post the established deadline of December 31, 2020. Regarding composite goods of interest, such as wooden furniture comprising various types of wood, it’s imperative for the operator to pinpoint and record the exact locations of land where the wood, or any other relevant commodity utilized in production, was harvested. Components of these goods must not originate from undisclosed sources or lands affected by deforestation or degradation beyond the specified cut-off date.
