Suppose a wood operator harvested 20% of a forest in 2022, allowing natural regeneration. Would this wood be compliant under the EUDR? Could the same operation be repeated after 30 years with the same compliance outcome?
According to the Regulation, “forest degradation” includes structural changes like converting primary or naturally regenerating forests into plantations or other wooded areas (Article 2 (7)). This encompasses all forest categories outlined by the Food and Agriculture Organization.
Various wood harvesting levels are permissible as long as they avoid transformations meeting the degradation criteria.
